For years, Inventor Dan Zen has been doing psychedelic dancing as exercise and encourages everyone to try it out. As you watch any of the psychedelic dancing videos below – get up out of your seat and give it a go – and then – hey, start your own Woodstock!
Psychedelic dancing is a free-form flow of fingers, arms, head and trunk of body with a swaying of the legs and a gyration of the hips. It is great for pumping air through the lungs and stretching in a creative manner. As such, if you are finding your Thai Chi a little repetitive and want more cardio than Yoga… give it a whirl. It is easier to do than belly dancing and it gives you expressive freedom.
We hope that Ang Lee’s Taking Woodstock movie has some wild dancing scenes – and mood and freedom meme the youth of the day.

Psychedelic Dancing Out-take Surfaces due to Reposting of Videos

I just happened to want to do some psychedelic dancing as exercise and looked up psychedelic dancing on google. And as has been for the last couple years… there Dan Zen is as the number one psychedelic dancer in the world!
So I clicked on the link and noticed almost right away that the video in the Zen Mix was not the usual video for the very first episode of Psychedelic Dancing as Exercise.
Back a while ago I had to re-upload over 7o videos to Blip.tv when Vimeo stopped supporting the flv.
Well it turns out that in the video I uploaded there is a major calamity part way through – have a look to see what I mean! And here it is showing up in most watched top google search! I hope to show the people the wonderful healing powers of psychedelic dancing as exercise and how it is so good for the muscles because you ease and flow rather than snap and pound them and then this happens!

Psychedelic dancing as exercise set to the psychedelic filming of sixties album covers in high exposure darkness. This features a Zen Mix on top of a Zen Mix. You can replace the image field with a swf in this case another Zen Mix of background video on a blank picture. You can use the file links at the bottom of the mix to see what I mean.
Caribou is playing the feature song. They have a couple more I’d like to dance to too and there was a good one a while back. They are from Dundas – as am I. They are currnet – I think this song came from their album before their last one currently.
We talk about getting down in this mash of mixes. It would be a cooler world if everyone with headphones on got down as they walked along the sidewalk and halls instead of walking like a zombie. Well okay… walking like a real zombie has a bit of getting down involved in it.

Dan Zen wears his San Francisco Groovy Guru robe. The one he wore for the International Groovy Day poster. Should we choose a day for that? Or should it just be any day? Oh… also check out the Love Mash – the robe shows up there too and it would be cool if some more people made Zen Mixes and maybe someone will make us a love mash!
Dan Zen also “starred” in a movie called the Guru Monster Movie. Some of that can be seen pictorially on Thee Gnostics mySpace page – more to come as TheeGnostics.com site happens.
In 1996, Dan Zen traveled to San Francisco and wore a guru robe – quite a beautiful traditional green robe with yellow embroidery. He was at the Macromedia Conference where Shockwave was unveiled. A flower lei held his festival pass. An Indian guard, after much deliberation, came up smiling and said, “You know… in my country… the women wear those robes”.

Across the Universe Movie – How to Psychedelic Dance

The Across the Universe movie by Julie Taymor – who did the amazing Titus movie – is coming out and from some of the previews it looks like there is lots of psychedelic dancing some with oil drop shows, etc. So let’s hope that more people are looking for some examples of psychedelic dancing and come to realize that it is a most pleasurable past-time and indeed makes for good exercise.
To commemorate what is bound to be a revival below is a review Zen Mix mash of all the psychedelic dancing as exercise mixes Dan Zen has done to date. The knees! Previously, we have been concentrating on the upper body and the arms. Now we take a look down at the knees. Psychedelic dancing is great for the knees to strengthen after injury with gentle to vigorous motion depending on your capacity. Because you do not usually lift your feet from the ground, the exercise provided by psychedelic dancing is low impact.
The prelude shows traditional knee exercise that is relatively boring to do and tends not to provide a broad range of motions. If you contrast this with the motion that you see in the psychedelic dancing, you will see what we mean.
Amon Duul is the feature band here with their German “Kraut Rock” psychedelia from the early 70’s. During the more experimental percussion sessions, I often find myself jumping around on the futon and over the coffee table – sort of like an indoor Parkour that I call Padkour.
